Applications are invited for the full-time permanent faculty position in the area of Piezoelectric Microsystems to be appointed at the level of Senior Lecturer in the School of Engineering, in collaboration with the Tyndall National Institute. The appointee will have a strong track record of delivering innovative research outcomes at the cutting edge of their field. They will have demonstrated ability to develop exciting research ideas and lead independent research that is aligned with the ambitions of UCC Futures – Quantum and Photonics.
Job Responsibility:
Play a key role leading and connecting microsystems/MEMS-related activities in the School of Engineering and the Tyndall National Institute, including the SFI CONNECT Centre for Future Networks and Communications
Deliver high quality engineering education to undergraduate and graduate students within the context of a broader microsystems/electronics theme
Develop and lead a new research programme in fundamental and/or applied aspects of semiconductor and microsystems technologies based on piezoelectric thin films and substrates
Requirements:
Research experience and expertise to at least PhD level
Research experience and expertise (to PhD level and ideally beyond) in the design and/or fabrication of semiconductor technologies for microsystems/MEMS components based on piezoelectric thin films and/or substrates
Expertise in the application of these microsystems/MEMS components in RF filter circuits or other RF components for reconfigurable RF front-ends in 5G/6G communications systems is essential
An interest in expanding piezoelectric microsystems/MEMS research into technology areas such as piezoelectric power transformers, optical-acoustics and PMUT (piezoelectric micro-machined ultrasonic technologies) for biomedical imaging is highly desirable
A strong track record of delivering innovative research outcomes at the cutting edge of their field
Demonstrated ability to develop exciting research ideas and lead independent research that is aligned with the ambitions of UCC Futures – Quantum and Photonics
Potential for collaboration with industrial partners is also desirable
Experience/interest in the heterogeneous integration of microsystems components into functional circuits is desirable
Nice to have:
An interest in expanding piezoelectric microsystems/MEMS research into technology areas such as piezoelectric power transformers, optical-acoustics and PMUT for biomedical imaging
