The Senior Learning & Development Specialist is an experienced individual contributor responsible for architecting how ESI builds, delivers, and improves training across the company. This role is the ESI Academy's learning design authority and its primary design partner to Technical Trainers and operational subject-matter experts. Rather than functioning as a traditional content producer, the Senior Learning & Development Specialist operates as a force multiplier for the Academy. They elicit expertise from field and office subject-matter experts, design learning architecture that drives application and behavior change, orchestrate AI-assisted production to expand Academy capacity, and assure the quality and accuracy of every training asset that carries the ESI Academy brand in safety-sensitive environments. This position has no direct reports and is hands-on by design. Working closely with the ESI Academy Leader, Technical Trainers, OrgDev Program Managers, and operational leaders, the Senior Learning & Development Specialist establishes the standards, frameworks, and production practices that allow the Academy to scale training quality and consistency across craft, technical, safety, and operational domains. This is an in-person role and is based at our headquarters in Meridian, Idaho.

Serve as ESI's primary learning architect and instructional design authority for the ESI Academy
Partner with Technical Trainers and operational subject-matter experts to elicit field knowledge and translate it into practical, behavior-oriented learning

Lead the responsible use of AI-enabled tools to accelerate content development, expand Academy production capacity, and maintain accuracy in safety-sensitive environments
Establish and maintain learning standards, templates, quality checks, and style guidelines that carry the ESI Academy brand
Assure the quality and accuracy of training content produced by or with subject-matter experts, Technical Trainers, and AI tools before it reaches the field
Coach Technical Trainers and OrgDev partners on instructional design practices, adult learning principles, and AI-assisted development workflows
Collaborate with OrgDev Program Managers to align training design with workforce and leadership development initiatives
Support training rollout through pilot testing, learning measurement, and continuous improvement based on field feedback
Keep current curriculum accurate and aligned with ESI processes, standards, and culture as the company grows
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education, Learning & Development, or a related field required
Master's degree preferred
5+ years of experience in instructional design, curriculum development, or learning & development, with demonstrated outcomes beyond content production

Proven ability to elicit knowledge from subject-matter experts and translate field expertise into structured learning
Strong grasp of adult learning principles and instructional design frameworks applied in real-world operational settings
Experience in construction, the trades, manufacturing, utilities, energy, safety, or other operational environments preferred

Strong organizational and project management skills
able to operate independently across multiple workstreams
Clear communicator able to collaborate effectively across field, office, and leadership teams
Comfortable coaching peers and subject-matter experts on design practices rather than producing all content alone
Nice to have:
Master's degree preferred
Experience in construction, the trades, manufacturing, utilities, energy, safety, or other operational environments preferred
