Job Description:

The Senior Lead Counsel role provides legal support to the U.S. Personal Banking Mortgage business of Citigroup, focusing on critical legal, regulatory, and compliance matters. The attorney will collaborate with business management and functional partners and serve as an expert in mortgage-related laws and regulations.

Job Responsibility:

  • Providing legal counsel regarding all aspects of the originations process of the Mortgage Business, supporting strategic business initiatives, providing subject matter expertise in the interpretation and analysis of relevant laws, rules, and regulations, and advising business and functional partners on legal matters and risks impacting the business
  • Reviewing products, offerings, business plans/strategies, consumer documents and disclosures ensuring they meet applicable state and federal laws and regulations and internal policies and procedures
  • Collaborating across internal lines of business and control/support functions to achieve coordinated and efficient outcomes on matters of common interest
  • coordinating closely with other attorneys in the Mortgage Legal team
  • Serving as primary attorney covering assigned business activities and providing sound legal analysis and guidance to business partners in collaboration with others in Legal as well as functional and control partners
  • Proactively identifying and evaluating legal, regulatory, and other risks relevant to the business, providing review, analysis and judgment for escalation as appropriate

Requirements:

  • A Juris Doctor degree
  • A license in good standing to practice law in at least one state
  • A preference of 7 years, but a minimum of 5 years of relevant legal experience in financial services or mortgage originations
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proven analytical and organizational skills
  • Demonstrably strong writing skills
