Job Description:

This role offers a unique opportunity to play a vital part in the BBC Ukrainian Service, shaping meaningful journalism for audiences during a critical time. The role requires a strong understanding of video production fundamentals and will lead a team of BBC journalists working across different cities and countries. You will oversee high‑quality content across video, audio and text, lead and develop a team of journalists, and work closely with colleagues in London to drive editorial initiatives and innovation.

Job Responsibility:

  • Originate and produce stories which may include scripting, editing, outputting, filming and presenting content across a range of BBC output
  • Allocate work to a team and check progress
  • Ensure the professional contribution of staff and the quality of output
  • Lead the team on a day-to-day basis
  • Contribute ideas and support to the overall management of the site
  • Lead the video planning process
  • Commission and select relevant materials ensuring they meet expectations of our audiences and adhere to the BBC’s editorial
  • Act as a facilitator of change, clearly communicating and sharing best practices between teams
  • Present the content on radio, TV or online (live or recorded)
  • Deliver to tight deadlines while maintaining the highest editorial standards

Requirements:

  • Solid grasp of both Ukrainian and international news
  • Share the editorial values of the team
  • In-depth knowledge of the Ukrainian media market
  • Fluent in Ukrainian and English (both written and spoken)
  • Advanced video editing skills
  • Understand audience behaviour and how to increase video audience
  • Able to use platform metrics and audience research
  • High standard of editorial judgment, writing ability and production skills based on substantial broadcast journalism experience
  • Ability to manage resources, staff, technical facilities and budgets
