As a Senior Industrial Engineer at Boston Dynamics, you will spearhead the creation and continuous improvement of production concepts and layouts. This includes but is not limited to line design, facility layout, large-scale installed production equipment and automation, as well as capacity and labor cost modeling. As part of the Production Technology and Industrial Engineering team, every day you will work closely with cross-functional teams to lead initiatives to improve production processes, reduce waste, and increase overall efficiency. Job Responsibility:
Lead cross-functional projects from concept through execution, ensuring clear milestones, stakeholder alignment, risk assessments, and on-time delivery
Partner with production, quality, test, and manufacturing engineering teams to improve efficiency, product quality, and manufacturing scalability
Design and implement production concepts, including corresponding factory layouts and workcenter-level workflows, tailored to the needs of our scaling production operations through cross-functional teamwork
Develop and maintain capacity models to predict production output, identify bottlenecks, and derive solutions
Analyze and improve material and information flow, takt time, line balancing, and assembly line or workstation layout to maximize efficiency
Drive standard work creation, time studies, and ergonomics evaluation using industrial engineering methods (e.g., MODAPTS, MTM)
Identify automation opportunities (e.g., cobots, vision systems, AGVs) and lead business case development and execution
Support the rollout and continuous improvement of our MES system
Establish KPIs for production performance (OEE, throughput, yield), develop performance dashboards, and lead root cause analysis and corrective actions
Lead Lean initiatives, including Gemba walks, Kaizen events, and value stream mapping, and support 6S and a culture of continuous improvement
Develop plant competency in a wide range of Industrial Engineering methods and Lean tools to enhance overall safety, quality, productivity, and profitability
Requirements:
BS or higher in an engineering technical field (Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science, Physics, etc.) or equivalent work experience
Minimum 10 years of experience in a product manufacturing environment
Minimum 5 years of experience in industrial or manufacturing engineering, preferably in robotics, aerospace, or complex electromechanical systems
Proven track record in implementing efficient production systems and leading cross-functional projects
Ability to work in an ambiguous environment with rapid development cycles while prioritizing and managing multiple responsibilities
Hands-on experience with MES and ERP systems (preferably Tulip and Rootstock) in a production environment
Strong project management and organizational skills, including use of tools like Jira, Smartsheet, or MS Project
Excellent communication and leadership skills
ability to influence across functions and levels
Nice to have:
Hands-on experience with early-stage products, particularly in mobile robots
Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification
Familiarity with automation and MES integration to scale production
