Job Description

We are looking for a detail-oriented Senior Indirect Tax Accountant to oversee indirect tax operations and compliance within our organization. This role requires a proactive individual with expertise in corporate tax, sales tax, and income tax provisions, who can collaborate across departments to ensure accuracy in tax filings and compliance processes. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to key tax initiatives and process improvements.

Job Responsibility

  • Manage the daily operations of indirect tax compliance, including reviewing, reconciling, and approving filings prepared by third-party providers
  • Conduct monthly and quarterly reconciliations between tax filings, Avalara reports, and general ledger accounts, investigating and resolving discrepancies
  • Collaborate with Accounting, Finance, and Operations teams to address taxability, exemptions, and billing-related queries
  • Maintain organized documentation and workpapers to support compliance and audit readiness
  • Handle notice intake and resolution workflows, including tracking deadlines, gathering necessary support, and ensuring timely responses
  • Respond to tax notices and customer inquiries by providing thorough documentation and analysis
  • Support indirect tax audits by preparing required documentation and coordinating responses to information requests
  • Assist with U.S. federal and state income tax return preparation and related workpapers in partnership with external providers
  • Contribute to quarterly and year-end tax provision processes, including tie-outs, rollforwards, and supporting schedules
  • Identify opportunities to improve indirect tax processes and support initiatives aimed at enhancing accuracy, efficiency, and workflow automation

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of corporate tax compliance, including income and sales tax regulations
  • Proven experience in indirect tax operations and reconciliations
  • Familiarity with tax provision processes and financial statement disclosures under U.S. GAAP
  • Proficiency with tax technology tools such as Avalara and other reporting systems
  • Excellent organizational skills for maintaining audit-ready documentation and workpapers
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across departments to resolve tax-related issues
  • Analytical skills to investigate variances and recommend appropriate actions
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • CPA or equivalent certification preferred

  • Prepare and file all domestic non-income tax filings and assist with other relevant direct state and local filing requirements
  • Prepare monthly reconciliation and accruals of indirect general ledger accounts and data
  • Work closely with accounts receivable team to review exemption certificates, withholding certificates, and address other relevant documentation requests
  • Manage and track sales tax exemption certificates
  • Complete and file various business surveys as required by government agencies
  • Assist with tax controversy matters (direct and indirect), including negotiating settlements and VDAs, reviewing notices, preparing correspondence with tax authorities, and dispute resolution
  • Stay current with changes in indirect tax laws and regulations and implement necessary updates to compliance procedures
  • Implement tax “best practices” for tax automation and compliance to minimize reliance upon outside service providers
