Job Description:

We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Graphic Designer who has extensive experience with environmental graphics working on museum exhibitions or other spatial design mediums. The Senior Graphic Designer works closely with other members of the creative team in producing memorable visitor experiences. As a leader on the team, you will drive the visual approach of projects, from big picture ideation to developing graphic systems for the life cycle of a project.

Job Responsibility:

  • Create engaging graphic elements for national and international visitor experiences and museum exhibitions, leading your project’s conceptual vision
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and clients to translate complex information into project vision and accessible visual communication
  • Participate in or lead internal team brainstorms and prepare and contribute creative ideation
  • Design with the visitor in mind. In all design decisions, consider the visitor experience and flow
  • Consult with project leadership (Producer and Creative Director) regarding schedule, milestone deliverables, budget, and any unique client needs
  • Listen to client feedback and ensure client needs are reflected in proposed design solutions
  • Present, lead, or attend internal meetings or client meetings, check-ins, or workshops
  • Lead the graphic utilization of various project materials (scripts, artifacts, historic and contemporary images, numbering and tracking systems) to inform graphics and visual intent
  • Design and implement the visual design strategy for your projects from concept to implementation
  • Create and implement the visual approach for presentation materials and client meetings
  • Lead small teams of Graphic Designers on your projects
  • Regularly communicate with Graphic Designers, allocating and reviewing assignments, and providing positive and constructive feedback
  • Ensure the graphic designers on your projects contribute to visually compelling presentations and deliverables that are organized, on time, aligned with all teams work
  • Lead with a mentorship mindset, assigning tasks that allow team members to learn and grow
  • Partner with fabrication specialists to ensure successful implementation of graphic design elements
  • Lead a production team during the Final Design Artwork phase (FDA)
  • Work closely with the team coordinator to number all graphic materials and ensure graphic specifications are accurate
  • Coordinate with the fabricator on sample review, production methods, and FDA timeline
  • Assign work to production designers to create hundreds of high quality graphic files for production
  • Travel for in-person reviews to fabricator or to the project site, conducting on-site sample review, mock-ups, installation feedback and evaluation of completed graphics
  • Oversee maintenance and organization of digital asset libraries and project files
  • Stay current with design trends, production techniques, sustainability practices, and industry best practices

Requirements:

  • B.A or M.A in Graphic Design, Environmental Design, or related field
  • 5+ years experience in experiential design or related field
  • Creative thinking, designs that convey emotion
  • Strong skills manipulating graphics through Adobe Creative Suite apps, most frequently: InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
  • Excellent typography skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent use of color theory, composition, and visual hierarchy
  • Design and implementation of impactful experiential design through multiple phases of design from Concept to Design Development to fabrication oversight
  • Ability to work with 3D team members to create collaborative spatial designs
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and inclusive design principles
  • Knowledge and experience with fabrication techniques and both typical and unique graphic production methods for exhibit design
  • Ability to multi-task and work on multiple projects, excellent organizational skills
  • Proactive communicator, excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Collaborative mindset and willingness to receive feedback

Nice to have:

  • Google Suite: Experience with google suite is a plus
  • slides, sheets, and docs
  • Production & Fabrication: Understanding of material applications and fabrication methods. Knowledge of print production processes and file preparation
  • Experience designing identity and branding
  • Experience with outdoor or wayfinding design
  • 3D or motion software knowledge (After Effects, Figma, Google Sketch-Up, Vectorworks, Blender, etc)
  • Photography or illustration skills
