As a Senior Social Media Manager within the Newsroom team, you’ll play a leading role in identifying, shaping, and reacting to the cultural moments that matter to our audience. You’re someone who lives and breathes culture and social media, with the experience and judgement to shape how Zalando shows up — not just contribute to it. In this senior role, you will also serve as Instagram Channel Manager: the curator, guardian, and strategic owner of one of Zalando’s most important brand channels. You’ll define its editorial direction, safeguard quality, steer creative decisions, and ensure every post ladders up to our brand ambition – both topically and visually. You’ll collaborate closely with creators, agencies, and internal teams to bring ideas to life at speed. Your remit spans real-time reactivity, forward-planned storytelling, and channel excellence — requiring an expert understanding of platforms, audiences, and culture. This is a hands-on, fast-paced, and deeply creative role for someone excited by Internet culture, brand storytelling, and social craft.
Job Responsibility:
Be plugged into culture, monitoring emerging trends, internet conversations and platform shifts — becoming the team’s go-to expert for what’s happening right now
Lead real-time content ideation and execution, pitching reactive ideas and collaborating with creators, copywriters and designers to bring them to life quickly and creatively
Own Instagram as Channel Manager, curating the feed, stories and Reels
defining the editorial direction and visual aesthetic
and ensuring everything published is platform-native, intentional and aligned with Zalando’s brand and creative standards
Bring creativity and originality every day, crafting platform-native social formats across TikTok, Instagram and YouTube, with a sharp instinct for visual storytelling
Create clear briefs, social copy and lo-fi mockups to articulate ideas effectively and guide agencies, partners and internal teams through execution
Stay organised across multiple fast-moving projects, keeping timelines tight, deliverables on track and workflows moving at Newsroom speed
Manage cross-functional stakeholders, ensuring clarity, alignment and smooth collaboration across teams while upholding the integrity and focus of the channel
Use social listening and performance insights to evaluate cultural relevance, refine ideas and inform future content across the Newsroom and Instagram strategy
Requirements:
5+ years of experience managing social channels and creating content across key platforms — ideally in fashion, lifestyle, culture, or entertainment
A sixth sense for culture and understand how to turn signals into meaningful social-first storytelling
Managed or led Instagram channels before and have a strong POV on how to build and protect a brand’s presence
Both creative and strategic, able to explain the “why” behind your ideas to senior stakeholders
Experience collaborating with creators, agencies, and cross-functional teams — and know how to keep timelines tight and outputs strong
Thrive in a fast-paced, real-time environment, and enjoy being decisive and proactive
Organised, self-motivated, and solution-oriented, with excellent taste and attention to detail
Nice to have:
