We are a nonprofit organization seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Senior/GL Accountant to join our team. This position plays a key role in maintaining accurate financials, supporting management with reporting and analysis, and ensuring compliance with internal accounting procedures. The ideal candidate is hands-on, dependable, and experienced in small-business accounting operations using QuickBooks.
Job Responsibility:
Prepare monthly journal entries for assigned funds and intercompany accounts
Review incoming cash receipts and accounts payable batches for accurate general ledger coding and compliance with company policies
Manage the month-end and year-end closing process
generate and distribute monthly financial statements and related reports
Coordinate monthly revenue recognition and accruals to ensure proper grant or fund reporting
Review and analyze monthly financial statements
provide variance analysis and communicate findings to management
Reconcile balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis and investigate discrepancies
Act as a liaison between finance and operational departments regarding A/P, cash receipts, and reporting inquiries
Track and report on capital and maintenance projects
Train internal staff on accounting policies and procedures to ensure consistency and compliance
Assist in preparing audit schedules and supporting documentation for internal and external auditors
Coordinate and assist with the annual budget preparation process
Support ad hoc accounting projects, research, and analysis as assigned
Provide backup support for other accounting team members as needed
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (minimum 18 semester or 24 quarter accounting units required)
Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience with strong general ledger and financial reporting background
Proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel (including formulas, pivot tables, and lookups)
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail
Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a collaborative team approach
Nice to have:
Experience in nonprofit or fund accounting a plus, but not required
