Job Description:

The Senior GIS Technical Lead & Support Engineer is the organization’s SME for geospatial systems, fiber network design data, and technical support across all platforms of the GIS IQGeo network infrastructure system. This role owns the IQGeo ecosystem, ensures system readiness, resolves complex engineering & logic issues, and enables the engineering, construction, planning and operations teams to execute efficiently. This is a senior technical authority responsible for raising the quality bar, setting standards for vendors, mentoring peers, and serving as the escalated problem solver across Engineering, Construction, Finance and Operations.

Job Responsibility:

  • Technical Ownership of GIS Platforms
  • Serve as the senior technical authority for IQGeo, all platforms
  • Direct interface/ liaison with IQGeo system developers
  • Configure layers, data models, rulesets, and integrations
  • Establish and enforce GIS and design standards across the organization
  • Drive system improvements that increase accuracy, speed, and data reliability
  • Owner of UAT testing requirements for system performance & agility

  • Provide expert-level review and troubleshooting for fiber designs, redlines, routing issues
  • Resolve escalated issues from engineering, construction, operations and PMO
  • Interpret and correct data anomalies in address datasets, premise mapping, and network topology
  • Deliver clear, actionable solutions—often under tight timelines
  • Design Quality Assurance (QA/QC)
  • Perform deep-dive technical validation of IQ enhancements
  • Identify risks, errors, conflicting routings, and incomplete or inaccurate elements
  • Own the quality gate before IQGeo changes put in production
  • Handle Tier I, II, III updates in-house
  • Oversee UAT testing for IQ Tier IV enhancements
  • Maintain version control, change management, and documentation of data workflows
  • Cross-Functional Technical Partner
  • Support cross-functional teams (Network Engineering, Construction, Operations, Finance, PMO) with high-complexity spatial and design insights
  • Participate in build-readiness reviews and design strategy sessions
  • Provide data and technical guidance that influence priority decisions
  • Training, Mentorship & Best Practices
  • Train engineers, surveyors, and field teams on GIS usage, standards, and troubleshooting
  • Create documentation, SOPs, and guides for repeatable processes
  • Serve as the go-to mentor for junior and mid-level GIS or design engineers

Requirements:

  • 5–8+ years of experience in GIS within telecom, utilities, or infrastructure
  • Mastery of IQGeo, ESRI ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar systems
  • Strong understanding of fiber network architecture, OSP design, and construction workflows
  • Proven expertise reviewing and troubleshooting fiber designs
  • Ability to solve complex data problems with minimal oversight
  • Excellent communication skills—translating technical detail for non-technical audiences

Nice to have:

  • Experience in large-scale FTTH/FTTP builds, ideally in ILEC or startup environments
  • Familiarity with API integrations, automation scripting (Python, SQL), or FME
  • Experience creating GIS-based analytics or dashboards for leadership
