Job Description:

We are now accepting applications from highly motivated and enthusiastic FXTD’s to join our talented teams onsite for a number of exciting projects in 2026. Our FX team is comprised of more than 100 of the world's leading FX TDs. Collectively they help to solve a diverse variety of VFX problems, working in close partnership with other departments across Wētā FX. FX is integral to Wētā's R&D efforts, pipeline and workflows, which all continue to adapt to the increasing focus on FX-driven VFX. This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in maintaining and building a team who sit at the juncture between creativity and technology in a company that continues to push the boundaries of the VFX craft.

Job Responsibility:

  • Help to solve a diverse variety of VFX problems
  • Working in close partnership with other departments across Wētā FX
  • Integral to Wētā's R&D efforts, pipeline and workflows
  • Play a key role in maintaining and building a team who sit at the juncture between creativity and technology

Requirements:

  • Have 5+ years’ experience as an FX artist on feature films
  • Be an excellent communicator
  • Be comfortable collaborating and a strong team player
  • Have generalist knowledge of Houdini (Flip, Pyro, RBD etc.)
  • Be proficient in Linux

Nice to have:

  • Have previous experience running water simulations in production
  • And/Or have previous experience developing early looks for magical and abstract FX in production
  • And/Or have previous experience running complex large scale destruction simulations in production
  • And/Or have previous experience running plant simulation in production either with vellum or custom solvers
