Job Description:

The Pawsey Supercomputing Centre is a world-class high-performance computing facility supporting Australian researchers across fields like radio astronomy, energy, engineering, bioinformatics, and health. Home to Setonix—the Southern Hemisphere’s most powerful research supercomputer—Pawsey delivers cutting-edge computing, networking, and storage capabilities and underpins major projects like the Square Kilometre Array (SKA). This role offers the chance to architect solutions that support national and international researchers, working with a highly skilled team to deploy integrated, high-performance systems.

Job Responsibility:

Design and lead the development of front-end websites and back-end applications to integrate with Pawsey’s advanced infrastructure
Maintain and secure production systems, troubleshoot complex issues, and manage support requests
Create and maintain clear documentation for systems support and operational procedures
Share knowledge across the technical team and contribute to internal training activities
Collaborate with colleagues, partners, and clients to achieve shared objectives and uphold Pawsey’s reputation
Champion CSIRO’s values, including safety, inclusion, and continuous improvement in the workplace

Requirements:

Tertiary qualifications in Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
Demonstrated experience as a full-stack web developer, including the use of modern MVC (e.g. Django, Laravel, Flask) and frontend frameworks (e.g. React, Vue.js, Angular)
Proven ability to investigate complex, ambiguous problems and develop, test, and refine effective solutions
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders and collaborate respectfully in team environments
Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently on non-routine tasks, and contribute effectively to team goals

Nice to have:

Experience with Python, Git, and the Atlassian suite
Experience deploying applications on cloud platforms such as OpenStack or AWS
Familiarity with modern authentication protocols, including OpenID
