An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Fire Engineer to join a global multidisciplinary engineering consultancy. This Senior Fire Engineer position sits within a growing UK Fire Engineering team delivering fire safety solutions across the built environment. The successful Senior Fire Engineer will support the delivery of technically robust fire strategies on building projects, while occasionally contributing to infrastructure and transport schemes.
Job Responsibility:
Develop Fire Safety Strategy reports for a variety of building projects
Undertake Means of Escape analysis including evacuation calculations, travel distance assessments and exit width analysis
Interpret and apply UK fire safety legislation and standards such as Approved Document B, BS 9999, BS 9991, BS 7974, BB100 and HTM 05
Support fire safety engineering reviews on rail and infrastructure projects referencing relevant industry standards
Conduct design reviews and provide third-party verification of fire strategies
Attend internal and external design meetings with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders
Contribute to Fire Risk Assessments across building and transport sectors
Assist with technical proposals and documentation supporting the consultancy’s fire engineering services
Requirements:
A degree in Fire Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architecture or another numerate discipline
Strong experience applying UK fire regulations and guidance within a consultancy or design environment
Knowledge of performance-based fire engineering and risk-based design approaches
Understanding of evacuation modelling, fire dynamics and smoke behaviour principles
Progress towards Chartered Engineer status or full membership of a recognised professional body
Nice to have:
Familiarity with modelling tools such as CFAST, FDS or similar
Awareness of PAS 9980, façade assessments, and the Building Safety Act
