Job Description:

Our client, a leader in the financial services industry, is seeking an experienced Finance Accountant to join their team. This role falls within the Finance Controllership division and is responsible for ensuring the integrity of financial reporting. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in financial services, accounting governance, and process improvement. This is a 12-month contract with a high possibility of extension and potential for full-time conversion. The position follows a hybrid work model, requiring 2-3 days per week in the office located in Downtown Toronto.

Job Responsibility:

Oversee the Insurance and Loan Loss Provision month-end close process
Conduct financial analysis, investigation, and explanation of results
Provide oversight for Insurance legal entities and support quarterly board deliverables
Ensure strong financial controls and implement process improvements
Execute month-end accounting close and quarterly financial reporting deliverables
Monitor and manage offshore team deliverables
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including CFO teams, Risk, and Internal Audit
Ensure compliance with accounting policies and regulatory requirements
Respond to audit requests and identify areas for financial control improvements
Support and mentor team members in understanding business and financial processes

Requirements:

5-7+ years of relevant work experience in financial services
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, VBA, Macros)
Strong analytical and investigative skills in accounting processes
CPA accreditation or equivalent preferred
Experience with ERP financial applications (Peoplesoft, SAP, Oracle) is an asset
Knowledge of IFRS, financial reporting, and financial controls
Loan loss provision and insurance experience is a plus
Strong communication and team collaboration skills
