Our client are a well-known QLD State government organisation based in the Brisbane City. They are currently seeking a Senior Finance Advisor to come in and joint their team on a temp contract opportunity until 30th June with possible extensions.
Job Responsibility:
Complex Financial Reconciliations: Manage and execute fortnightly, monthly, and annual reconciliations across payroll, Superstream, Long Service Leave (LSL), and the Paid Parental Leave Scheme (PPLS) to ensure data integrity
General Ledger Governance: Monitor the department’s general ledger through controlled reviews, accrual sampling, and rigorous investigation of supporting documentation to maintain internal control standards
Financial Reporting & Analysis: Lead the preparation of interim and year-end financial statements, performing analytical reviews of material movements and coordinating quarterly Tridata submissions to Treasury
Strategic Financial Advisory: Provide expert advice to internal and external stakeholders on PPLS adjustments, LSL entitlements, and SAP open item management, ensuring compliance with organizational policies
Process Improvement & Digital Innovation: Leverage data analytics and digital competencies to review existing financial practices, identifying opportunities to enhance internal controls and modernize workflows
Collaborative Problem Solving: Contribute to a high-performing team by researching complex general ledger issues and implementing effective solutions to improve service delivery and operational efficiency
Stakeholder Relationship Management: Build and maintain proactive, cooperative partnerships across various regions, divisions, and external agencies to support seamless financial operations
Compliance & Policy Adherence: Ensure all journals, clearing accounts, and financial registers strictly adhere to established financial policies, regulatory requirements, and departmental standards
Requirements:
Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and practices for financial management
Demonstrated ability in the use of general ledger and financial reporting, systems, spreadsheets and associated database applications
Knowledge and skills in analysis, investigation, experience and judgement to make informed recommendations and provide strategic advice
A degree or equivalent in accounting, commerce is highly desirable
Membership of CPA Australia or the Institute of Chartered Accountants or a similar would also be highly regarded
Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and practices for financial management
Demonstrated ability in financial support services including the use of general ledger and financial reporting, systems, spreadsheets and associated database applications
An ability to clearly and concisely communicate both verbally and in writing
Personal commitment and prioritisation skills to achieve deadlines within agreed timeframes and competing priorities
Demonstrate knowledge and skills in analysis, investigation, experience and judgement to make informed recommendations and provide strategic advice that is rigorously considered in your specialist area and/or service delivery
Ability to foster cooperative working relationships with stakeholders including clients, other government departments, and service providers
Nice to have:
A degree or equivalent in accounting, commerce or business administration is highly desirable
Membership of CPA Australia or the Institute of Chartered Accountants or a similar professional body would also be highly regarded
