Zalando's Retail Media unit ZMS is looking for a high-impact Senior External Marketing & PR Specialist to elevate our brand presence across the DACH region and Europe. As the retail media landscape evolves, we want to ensure we aren't just part of the conversation—we want to lead and drive it. We are looking for a well-connected media pro who knows exactly which doors to knock on to position us as the definitive thought leader in the space. Your goal is to turn our retail media business unit into a household name within the advertising and retail industries. Working to provide dedicated support beyond what the Corporate Communications team already offers, you will amplify our outward facing key messaging around our brand equity building capabilities, our stand-out creative campaigns, our product innovations and overall performance, driving visibility and building trust with our brand partners.

Proactive Press Outreach: Actively pitch stories, data-driven insights, and executive profiles to top-tier business, tech, and marketing publications (e.g., W&V, Horizont, Adweek, OMR, Handelsblatt).
Thought Leadership: Secure guest columns, speaking engagements, and expert commentary opportunities for leadership to define the future of Retail Media, as well as promote our own podcast.
Award Management: Research, draft, and submit winning entries for prestigious industry awards (e.g., Effies, Cannes Lions, MIXX Awards, German Digital Award) to ensure consistent ranking.
Interview & Coverage Coordination: Facilitate high-impact interviews and maintain a steady drumbeat of press coverage that reinforces our market authority.
Network Leveraging: Utilize your existing 'Rolodex' of journalists, editors, and influencers in the DACH/European media scene to bypass the noise.
Event steering: steering and coordinating our annual ZMS Partner Day with up to 400 brand guests.
The Network: You have deep, established relationships with marketing, retail, and business journalists across Europe, with a strong focus on the DACH region.
The Expertise: You have a proven track record in PR or Journalism, ideally with a background in AdTech, Retail Media, or E-commerce.
The Strategist: You don't just 'send releases'
you craft compelling narratives that journalists actually want to cover and the industry desires to know about.
The Hunter: You are proactive
you don't wait for news to happen, but rather find the angle and create the opportunity.
The Communicator: You are fluent in German and English, with the ability to translate complex data into punchy, persuasive storytelling.
The organizational Talent: You are experienced in event management and successfully steered events with up to 400 participants.
The ideal Stakeholder: You know how to deal with a complex set of high-seniority stakeholders, keep them informed throughout projects, and guide them whenever needed.
