This role is within the Exposure Management team dedicated to catastrophe risk management for Beazley's Cyber Risks (CR) and Speciality Risks (SR) divisions. The role will have responsibility for executing and/or overseeing core operational responsibilities for catastrophe modelling and reporting, alongside an existing Senior Exposure Analyst and with the support of multiple Analysts
Job Responsibility
Responsible for collation of cyber and liability portfolios for monthly roll-up processes and monitoring of risk appetites
Responsible for execution of catastrophe modelling across internal and external scenarios (including third-party models), overseeing Analysts
Responsible for execution of modelling and associated responses for cyber and liability regulatory reporting purposes, including the Lloyd's Realistic Disaster Scenarios (RDS)
Responsible for running internal probabilistic models, under guidance from the Capital team
Provide portfolio commentary and insights for governance committees including presenting modelling results and catastrophe risk papers to governance committees
Support the development, enhancement, and maintenance of scenarios and models, including vendor models, and internal modelling methods / frameworks
Ensure data quality, completeness, and appropriateness of inputs into models, working closely with Data and Underwriting teams
Oversee the validation and reconciliation of Delegated Authority data, ensuring appropriate representation of delegated portfolios within exposure frameworks and catastrophe models
Involved in strategic discussions on catastrophe modelling methods, including engagement with transformation projects, and overall team strategy
Keep abreast of industry good practice, market insights and regulatory expectations on catastrophe management (e.g. Lloyd's Principles)
Engage with external stakeholders (e.g. brokers, vendors, Lloyds, regulators) on catastrophe modelling developments and expectations
Support the development and refinement of view of catastrophe risk for cyber and liability, including the development of new and existing realistic disaster scenarios (RDS)
Support the validation and challenge of third-party models and internal scenarios
Act as an exposure management Subject Matter Expert (SME) with CR and SR divisions
Provide data and insights to Underwriters, Capital Modelling team, Ceded Reinsurance team, Risk teams and governance committees in a clear and digestible format
Provide cyber and liability catastrophe output and analytical support for portfolio optimisation, and underwriting decisions
Assist with ad-hoc research, including emerging threat analysis, vendor model changes, and industry cyber and liability events
Provide ad-hoc event response support
Develop, maintain and own documentation, files and controls on cyber and liability modelling processes, tools, and governance
Provide SQL and analytics support to create or improve reporting, dashboards, automation
Identify and execute process and control improvements, including but not limited to exposure and results data
Coach and mentor more junior members of team
Contribute to the upskilling of colleagues on cyber and liability exposure management, both within the Exposure Management team and also within other teams (e.g. Underwriters)
Line management responsibilities for more junior members of staff (e.g. Analysts), including responsibility for performance management and career development of these colleagues
Requirements
Educated to A-Level or equivalent
Degree in a relevant discipline preferred but not essential
Actuarial background is advantageous but not required
Strong numerical ability with excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Effective verbal and written communication skills, able to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
Strong time-management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment
Problem-solving mindset with the ability to analyse issues and develop practical solutions
6+ years of experience in commercial insurance within exposure management, catastrophe risk or actuarial, ideally in cyber & specialty liability
Experience in managing individuals or a team (desirable)
Lloyd's insurance market experience and Lloyd's RDS knowledge desirable
Understanding of policy structures and reinsurance structures essential
Strong technical skills essential, including advanced Excel experience
People management experience desirable (e.g. line management)
Understanding of risk management principles and application (e.g. controls) desirable
