Senior Exploration Geologist is responsible for the geological definition and evaluation of appointed projects through the supervision of drilling programs, geophysical and geochemical surveys, compilation and analysis of data, and the preparation of technical reports.
Job Responsibility
Planning and execution of exploration field activities in line with project timelines and regional drilling schedules
Gain the approvals necessary for exploration activity including POW’s and excess tonnage applications
Maintain exploration programs to ensure that accurate records and information systems are updated with critical geological data (AcQuire and ARC GIS)
Provide coaching to Graduate Geologists, Geologists and Project Geologists
Conduct and maintain geological mapping programs
Drill rig supervision
geological logging
geological interpretation
ensure sampling quality is maintained
Supervision of geophysical and geochemical surveys
Ensure drilling is completed to appropriate standards and is cost effective
Monitor exploration drilling activities against approvals and report on rehabilitation status to DMIRS
Providing technical input into the resource estimation for the deposits including geological logging, interpretation and modelling
Refine mineralisation model based on geological observations
Submit operational reports to meet the required quality, content and timing
Conduct project work as required by the Principal Geologist
Maintain regular and effective communication and feedback with peers, subordinates and superiors
Maintain attention to detail in all aspects of the role
Statutory and technical reporting as required
Undertake work tasks as directed by the Principal Geologist and/or Geology Manager
Requirements
Tertiary level education in Geology
extensive senior experience in the mining and exploration industry, preferably Iron Ore experience
Skilled user of Micromine, Arc GIS, AcQuire or similar
Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently
Previous experience supervising exploration drill rigs and mentoring a team
Well-developed communication skills– both oral and written
Ability to work autonomously and within a team environment
Meet deadlines and manage priorities
Skilled in 3D geological modelling
Current WA drivers licence, with ability to safely operate a 4WD or 4WD qualification
