We're on the lookout for a passionate and experienced Senior Environmental Specialist (Seabirds) to join the Environmental Evaluation and Monitoring Unit. Job Responsibility
Manage and undertake fieldwork operations for our Seabird Monitoring and Research Programme
Oversee all logistics for a variety of monitoring sites, including remote locations and pest-free islands
Secure all necessary permits and approvals for fieldwork operations
Conduct hands-on monitoring tasks, including handling, banding, and collecting biological samples from seabirds
Ensure all biosecurity and health and safety protocols are followed rigorously
Process and validate raw data collected in the field and manage associated databases
Contribute to data analysis, interpretation, and reporting
Requirements
A Bachelor's degree in ecology, environmental science, or a related field, or commensurate work experience
Practical experience working with and handling seabirds for research purposes
A Department of Conservation Bird Banding Permit L2+ for small-medium seabirds is required
A strong level of fitness and the ability to work in all terrains and weather conditions, including walking with a backpack for extended periods
Experience managing fieldwork expeditions to remote areas
Excellent organisational and communication skills, with a collaborative approach to working with a diverse range of people, including iwi and landowners
