Job Description:

We’re looking for a passionate and experienced Senior Environmental Scientist – Approvals to join our Environmental Services & Advisory team. You’ll be part of a nationally connected group of environmental experts spanning Impact Assessment, Approvals, Ecology, Sustainability, Coastal, Contaminated Land and services, working on diverse and impactful projects across Queensland and the Asia Pacific Region. Stantec is an Engineering Partner for Urban Utilities’ Next Generation for Delivery (NG4D) program, which will see Stantec assist in the delivery of Urban Utilities capital works program from design to delivery. This role will work directly on providing planning and environmental technical advice across an array of complex water and wastewater projects, driving innovation and efficiencies in the delivery of critical water and wastewater infrastructure and services across five key Queensland local government areas.

Job Responsibility:

  • Lead and prepare planning and environmental approvals documentation, planning and environmental impact assessments and construction environmental management plans, using knowledge of Commonwealth, State (QLD) and local environmental legislation, current industry standards, and approval processes
  • Lodgement of State and Local approval and permit applications
  • Lead and prepare technical written reports to support project outcomes from project inception to delivery
  • Client and stakeholder liaison to achieve project objectives this includes internal and external stakeholders such as State departments, State regulators and Council representatives
  • Demonstrated ability to build, nurture, and manage strong client relationships, ensuring exceptional service and long-term partnerships
  • Ensure financial outcomes of assignments are achieved through effective project management
  • Working on multiple projects concurrently as part of a multidisciplinary and cohesive team to successfully deliver planning and environmental outcomes to our client
  • Promote a culture of high performance and delivery through mentoring and coaching of junior team members

Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Environmental Planning, Environmental Engineering or related discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years’ professional experience
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant legislation and standards, particularly in the Queensland and Federal regulatory environment
  • Demonstrated experience in the preparation of regulatory approvals documentation for a range of infrastructure projects
  • Professional standards of technical report writing
  • Flexibility and ability to prioritise multiple projects as required
  • Ability to lead project teams
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills to work within a team environment
  • Positive and proactive attitude
