Randstad Canada is seeking a Senior HSE Specialist for a world-class Tier 1 automotive manufacturer in Stratford, Ontario. In this role, you will be the cornerstone of workplace safety and environmental stewardship, overseeing integrated management systems (ISO 14001 & 45001) for a high-volume stamping and assembly facility. You will lead audits, manage complex WSIB claims, and collaborate with engineering teams to ensure the highest standards of equipment safety and ergonomics.

Job Responsibility

  • Collaborate with Engineering to review schematics and layouts for new equipment
  • ensure compliance with CSA Z432 (Safeguarding of Machinery) and CSA Z460 (Control of Hazardous Energy/LOTO)
  • Lead or coordinate the PSR process for all new or modified equipment to ensure engineering controls are validated before production
  • Develop and maintain integrated systems in accordance with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards
  • Partner with the Kaizen and Engineering teams to conduct biomechanical assessments and engineer physical solutions to musculoskeletal risks (lift-assists, workstation optimization)
  • Perform deep-dive technical audits and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to identify mechanical or electrical hazards
  • Manage technical environmental permits, air/noise monitoring programs, and waste reduction engineering initiatives
  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for near-misses and accidents, focusing on implementing permanent engineering solutions rather than just administrative fixes
  • Provide technical guidance to the Joint Health, Safety & Environmental Committee

Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, or Environmental), Occupational Health and Safety, or a related technical field
  • Minimum 7 years of HSE experience specifically within a heavy manufacturing environment (Automotive stamping/welding preferred)
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and P&IDs
  • Strong hands-on experience with ISO 14001 and 45001 implementation and auditing
  • Expert-level understanding of the Ontario OHSA and Environmental Protection Act

Nice to have

Professional certifications such as CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional) or P.Eng are highly valued

  • Participate in incident investigation, root-cause analysis, recordkeeping, and follow-up including implementation of effective corrective actions, and prepare communications to share the lessons-learned from such events across account operations.
  • Ensure that appropriate site and business specific programs are implemented, documented and standardized to effectively and efficiently meet KRI’s/SLAs and legal requirements.
