Job Description:

The Senior Environmental Adviser will be responsible for supporting our environmental approvals across our Iron Ore Operations. You will play an integral role in ensuring the continuity of operational projects and obtaining regulatory approvals to support our onsite development activities for our West Pilbara region. In this position, you will report directly to the Principal Environmental Advisor and be part of a dedicated team that fosters a collaborative environment, promoting professional growth.

Job Responsibility:

  • Assist with, and undertake, the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and approvals processes to ensure the timely delivery of regulatory approvals under Mining Act, Parts IV and V of State environmental legislation as well as the Federal EPBC Act, as required
  • Engage with project teams to request completion of Project Definition Forms for all projects
  • Development of approvals Execution Plans and approvals schedules that are achievable based on available resources and benchmarked assessment timeframes
  • Communicate with internal stakeholders to obtain project information to enable planning of environmental studies, and preparation of approval applications
  • Coordination and management of operational approvals projects, including scoping technical studies and surveys, scheduling and budget tracking
  • Engagement and management of consultants to conduct environmental studies in accordance with agreed timeframes
  • Engagement and management of consultants preparing environmental approval documents to support approvals for operational projects, including review and quality control of consultant deliverables
  • Preparation of environmental approval applications and supporting documents that adhere to government policy/guidelines and are in accordance with agreed Execution Plans and approvals schedules
  • Review of project documentation against EPBC/EPA/DWER/DMIRS policy and guidelines

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Environmental Science / Engineering or related field
  • Extensive experience with environmental operational, consulting or EIA related role within mining sector
  • Comprehensive understanding and ability to interpret environmental legislation, guidelines, standards and other requirements
  • Demonstrated experience providing strategic and operational environmental advice across all business levels
  • Ability to characterise and assess project and operational risks and determine appropriate management measures consistent with the risk profile
  • Experience managing competing priorities in a fast paced environment, including conflict resolution
  • Demonstrated ability to work within large multi-disciplinary teams and strong stakeholder engagement ability
