Elsewhere Entertainment is looking for a Senior (or above) Environment Artist - Terrain to join the development of a new IP and help create large-scale environments that feel immersive, cohesive, and purposeful. Feed your creativity while collaborating with our team of highly skilled developers to build something innovative, exhilarating, and expansively entertaining! In this role, you’ll collaborate with designers and fellow artists to craft spaces that support gameplay, narrative, and visual direction. From early research and reference gathering to final in-engine terrain, you’ll help transform creative vision into playable landscapes. You’ll balance artistic intent with technical performance, using a mix of procedural tools, real-world data, and hands-on sculpting to build environments that feel both natural and intentional. As a member of the project, you’ll help take the studio and our game from great to even better; with a focus on inclusivity, mutual respect (for ourselves and our players), thoughtfulness, empathy, professionalism, and collaboration.
Job Responsibility:
Contributing to the ideation of large spaces through research, written descriptions, and visual references
Create and refine large-scale terrain using engine tools and external sculpting software, shaping mountains, valleys, cliffs and natural landforms that support gameplay and visual direction
Generate and refine heightmaps, splat maps, and mask data to ensure clean topology and efficient world composition
Use procedural tools and LiDAR-based samples to build seamless landscapes while maintaining artistic control and cohesion
Collaborate with level designers to ensure terrain supports traversal, combat spaces, sightlines, and overall gameplay flow
Partner with foliage, biome, lighting, and environment artists to ensure cohesive integration with vegetation, architecture, and atmosphere
Contribute to terrain workflow documentation, best practices, and continuous improvement of landscape pipelines and toolsets
Requirements:
A strong portfolio demonstrating experience and interest in 3D terrain and world creation
Professional experience contributing to environment or world terrain development in AAA or comparable game development contexts
Strong artistic and design skills, including a keen eye for composition, color theory, and visual storytelling
Proficiency in industry-standard terrain modeling software like, Gaia or World Creator
Experience working in modern game engines and understand performance considerations such as budgets and memory constraints
Approach challenges from artistic, production, and technical perspectives
Can communicate visual ideas clearly, including through sketches or traditional media
Work effectively in collaborative team environments
Adapt to evolving project needs and shifting priorities
Nice to have:
Experience developing or working with procedural workflows (e.g., Houdini or similar tools)
Experience working with QGIS or other LiDAR-based terrain processing tools
Experience with photogrammetry or related scanning workflows
