Job Description

The EHS Leader is a critical member of the Natural Leadership Teams at both the Rockford and Cortland plants. The role provides guidance and coaching in all areas of safety and environmental stewardship and acts as the subject matter expert for both locations. The EHS Leader helps build capability, strengthens plant-wide safety culture, and partners across the Foam Business to solve safety challenges and drive innovation in hazard identification.

Job Responsibility

  • Champion the Safety Stand - Model and reinforce safe behaviors and expectations across both plants
  • Complete all required safety training and uphold all plant and role-specific safety policies
  • Educate team members on safe operation of equipment, new processes, and modifications
  • Communicate Owens Corning’s safety philosophy to ensure all employees understand expectations
  • Lead and Execute EHS Programs Across Both Plants - Lead safety initiatives supporting an injury-free culture
  • Lead environmental compliance and stewardship efforts
  • Maintain strong floor presence at each site to influence safe behaviors and engagement
  • Strengthen readiness for OSHA VPP through sustainable systems and employee ownership
  • Advise Natural Leadership Teams on EHS strategy, capital/resource needs, and compliance obligations
  • Develop safety coordinators and employee safety teams at both locations
  • Implement and evaluate EHS processes, including those related to PSM
  • Understanding Our Customers - Develop understanding of products, processes, and field applications
  • Use customer insights to influence decisions and ensure safety and performance expectations are met
  • Leading and Developing Talent - Build leadership capability within safety teams at both plants
  • Support development of safety coordinators for future leadership roles
  • Foster an environment of empowerment, accountability, and learning

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a safety-related field
  • 3–5 years experience in industrial or manufacturing environment OR completion of the OC EHS Leadership Program
  • CSP certification preferred
  • Experience leading change management efforts
  • Demonstrated success coaching and developing teams
  • Experience managing projects and driving results
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related systems
  • Ability to travel between Rockford, IL and Cortland, IL as needed (approx. 10–20%)
  • Strong technical aptitude and ability to learn quickly
  • High personal integrity and ethical decision-making
  • Strong bias for action and ability to synthesize data into practical solutions
  • High attention to detail and commitment to Owens Corning’s Safety Stand
