Join Amgen’s Mission of Serving Patients. Be part of Amgen's newest and most advanced drug substance manufacturing plant. The Senior Engineer / System Owner – Utilities will join the Facilities & Engineering (F&E) organization to provide technical ownership and lifecycle management of site utility systems supporting manufacturing operations at Amgen North Carolina (ANC). This role will serve as the primary system owner for the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). The role will also provide engineering support for plant and clean utility systems as required to ensure safe, compliant, and reliable site operations.

Job Responsibility:

  • Provide lifecycle ownership of the Wastewater Treatment systems
  • Ensure wastewater discharge compliance with environmental permit requirements
  • Lead investigations related to wastewater deviations
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions
  • Optimize chemical dosing, recirculation strategies, discharge flow control, and system performance
  • Provide engineering support for plant utilities and clean utilities
  • Assist with system design, commissioning, qualification, and startup activities
  • Troubleshoot performance issues impacting manufacturing operations
  • Support regulatory inspections and ensure audit readiness
  • Serve as system owner for BAS-integrated wastewater and utility systems
  • Maintain alarm rationalization and priority strategies
  • Advance predictive and condition-based maintenance programs
  • Ensure compliance with cGMP, OSHA, EPA, and environmental regulations
  • Lead capital projects and continuous improvement initiatives related to wastewater and utilities

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma / GED and 10 years of Engineering experience
  • Associate’s Degree and 8 years of Engineering experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree and 4 years of Engineering experience
  • Master’s Degree and 2 years of Engineering experience
  • Doctorate Degree
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Environmental, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering
  • 4+ years of experience in industrial or biopharmaceutical utility systems
  • Direct experience with wastewater treatment systems including neutralization and DAF
  • Experience supporting plant and/or clean utilities in GMP environments
  • Strong understanding of environmental discharge compliance requirements
  • Experience working in regulated environments (cGMP, OSHA, EPA)
  • Strong troubleshooting, technical writing, and communication skills
