Job Description

A Senior Electrical Estimator responsible for developing construction cost estimates for buildings/vertical construction, water/wastewater, pump stations and power projects. We will ask you to apply practical field experience and constructability expertise to the development of conceptual estimates when minimal design drawing and information are available.

Job Responsibility

  • Develop conceptual and detail construction cost estimates for all electrical and instrumentation and controls (I&C) systems
  • Interpret plans & specifications from multiple design phases
  • program, conceptual, design development through 100% Construction Documents and into change orders and generate quantity takeoffs and pricing for all systems
  • Familiar with techniques, procedures, methods and the nature of the applicable civil, structural and architectural construction systems
  • Ability to develop work breakdown structure for complex projects to provide clear and logical cost estimates
  • Ability to write Basis of Estimate to accurately describe the estimating methodology and assumptions
  • Ability to generate quantity takeoffs and calculate costs using labor rates, production rates, material pricing schedules and historical data
  • Collects cost data from functional representatives, subcontractors, and vendors
  • Understand construction market trends and the implications for estimating
  • Contribute to risk analysis, value engineering and constructability exercises
  • Prepares and maintains historical cost data
  • Contribute to Risk Analyses, Value Engineering, and Constructability exercises
  • Creates cost models for estimating elements
  • Assists lead estimator with reporting functions and assembly of project deliverables

Requirements

  • 10+ years of electrical/Instrumentation and controls estimating experience in a related industry
  • Proficient in the use of standard office computer systems such as MS Project, PDF file editor programs, Bluebeam etc.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical specifications and drawings
  • Ability to perform a quality Quantity Survey from available documents and apply cost factors to calculate a unit price
  • Experience in conceptual estimating
  • Experience from the oil and gas industry is a plus
  • Past experience with "Hard Bid" general contractor estimating is a plus
  • Past experience with actual construction of electrical installations is a plus
  • Working knowledge of codes in the electrical/I&C discipline
  • Knowledge of Sage Estimating software is a plus
  • Strong organizational skills to deal with completing customer needs
  • Ability to foresee events and anticipate changes and respond to them in a proactive manner

Nice to have

  • Experience from the oil and gas industry is a plus
  • Past experience with "Hard Bid" general contractor estimating is a plus
  • Past experience with actual construction of electrical installations is a plus
  • Knowledge of Sage Estimating software is a plus
