Our client, a fast-growing space technology startup, is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer (7+ years’ experience) to lead the electrical development of an advanced space-based LiDAR payload at their Berlin office. The role supports a European space agency-funded mission focused on next-generation spaceborne LiDAR systems. You will work with multidisciplinary teams in Europe and the US to adapt heritage Earth-observation LiDAR designs for beyond-LEO and deep-space environments, with ownership of the payload’s electrical, power, data, and avionics systems and their interfaces to the spacecraft bus. This is a full lifecycle position covering concept, design, AIT, qualification, and flight implementation, working closely with laser, software, mechanical, thermal, and systems engineering teams.
Job Responsibility:
Lead electrical, data, power, and avionics development for a space LiDAR payload
Adapt existing LEO LiDAR electrical designs for non-LEO missions
Design FPGA-based systems and associated peripherals (memory, ADC/DAC, transceivers)
Develop payload and LiDAR timing systems (laser/camera synchronisation and UTC)
Design power regulation and distribution architectures
Support flatsat and flight hardware build, test, and space qualification
Identify and mitigate electrical and radiation-related design risks
Produce requirements, test plans/reports, and design review material (PDR, CDR, etc.)
Requirements:
BSc in Electrical Engineering with 7+ years experience (or MSc/PhD with 5+)
Experience with space hardware electrical design and qualification campaigns
Strong background in power and data systems
Experience with spacecraft C&DH, high-speed signalling, power electronics, EMC/EMI, and grounding
Ability to translate system requirements into robust electrical designs
Nice to have:
Experience with LiDAR, lasers, sensors, PCB/CCA design, and radiation analysis
