An engineering organisation in the water sector is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to deliver electrical and instrumentation designs for water and wastewater treatment projects. This role requires strong technical capability, stakeholder coordination, and responsibility for high‑quality design outputs.
Job Responsibility:
Deliver electrical and instrumentation designs for treatment plants
Liaise with utility providers and review client specifications
Prepare technical submissions, design calculations, and documentation
Design electrical distribution, services, and containment systems
Develop electrical panels, schematics, and automation network architecture
Produce cable, I/O and power schedules, and control philosophies
Support procurement: evaluate suppliers, subcontractors, and quotations
Contribute to FAT documentation and attend FATs when required
Collaborate with design, contracts, automation, and wider engineering teams
Ensure designs meet relevant Irish, European and industry standards (WIMES, IEC, etc.)
Provide technical leadership and mentor junior engineers
Attend site occasionally to support design activities
Requirements:
Degree (Level 7 or higher) in Electrical Engineering
10+ years' electrical design experience, ideally in the water industry
Strong understanding of E&I design, panel design, and industrial control systems
Experience working with ESB and utility interfaces
Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
Strong communication and IT skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Customer‑focused, self‑motivated, and technically proficient
