We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Earthing & Bonding (E&B) Engineer to join the Egis UK MEPHFC Design Team. The ideal candidate will have experience in both railway systems and rail station E&B design and coordination. You will play a key role in the design, coordination, and assurance of traction power, station, and depot earthing and bonding systems, ensuring compliance with safety standards and successful integration across all railway and building services systems. This is a technical, delivery-focused role suited to an engineer with strong experience in electrical safety, stray current mitigation, and system integration, with involvement across design, site activities, and Testing & Commissioning phases. We are looking for someone who’s dedicated, diligent, and driven, and will take this challenge head on, being an important part of a dynamic team with big ambitions.
Job Responsibility:
Produce detailed Earthing & Bonding (E&B) designs for traction power substations, route-wide systems, stations, and depots
Produce lightning protection designs
Produce Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) design and documentation
Develop technical reports, calculations, and safety documentation to support design justification and client handover
Production of design proposals (e.g. sketches) for agreement with the client, stakeholders, subcontractors, suppliers etc.
Review and approve technical drawings, material specifications, and installation methodologies
Perform electrical modelling and calculations using industry-standard tools (e.g. CDEGS)
Ensure designs comply with relevant standards, including EN 50122-1, EN 50122-2, BS 7671, BS 7430, BS 50522, BS 62305
Produce and maintain Earthing Management Plans, E&B Execution Plans, and E&B Staging Plans, including safety justifications
Carrying out design reviews and working to design assurance processes
Develop and implement stray current mitigation strategies in accordance with EN 50122-2
Ensure all designs mitigate risks associated with touch and step voltages in line with EN 50122-1
Support safety assurance activities, including hazard identification, risk mitigation, and compliance demonstration
Coordinate with Track, Civil, Traction Power, Signalling, Telecoms, Building Services and Urban Realm disciplines to ensure full system integration
Manage interfaces between E&B systems and external stakeholders, including utility providers (water, gas, telecoms), architectural, civils, and structural packages
Assess and mitigate risks related to electrical interference on third-party assets
Writing project communications such as Requests For Information (RFIs) & meeting minutes
Maintaining trackers, registers and schedules
Conduct site-based testing including soil resistivity surveys and Fall of Potential (FoP) testing
Support continuity, resistance, and earthing verification testing
Provide technical support during Testing & Commissioning, including issue resolution and system validation
Act as a key technical point of contact for clients and stakeholders on E&B matters
Present technical solutions and design updates at project and client meetings
Support coordination across design, construction, and commissioning phases to ensure safe and compliant delivery
Work closely with systems engineers, integrators, design consultants, project managers, and subcontractors
Attend coordination and technical meetings, representing the E&B discipline in design, integration, and T&C discussions
Provide engineering input to RAMS, safety assurance, and operational readiness activities as they relate to E&B systems
Requirements:
Electrical Engineering qualification and a minimum of 10 years’ professional experience
Proven experience in Earthing & Bonding design within rail, LRT, or infrastructure projects
Experience of working in an engineering production environment
Experience of multi-disciplinary design and coordination, and the delivery of projects to a high quality, throughout all design stages
Experience of producing technical notes, reports, specifications, drawings, schedules and calculations
Ability to find solutions to engineering problems
Capable of managing design interfaces and integration processes
Strong knowledge of British Standards and Regulations, and Rail Standards, such as Network Rail, HS2 and TfL, including EN 50122-1, EN 50122-2, BS 7671, BS 7430, BS 50522, BS 62305
Understanding of project scopes, requirements, works information, and commercial awareness
Ability to deliver work to a programme and budget
Strong communication, collaboration, and reporting abilities
Capable of working as part of a team and on own initiative
Ability to support and help develop less experienced members of the team
Comfortable leading meetings and presenting to clients, stakeholders, colleagues, subcontractors, suppliers etc.
Excellent understanding of electrical systems from a technical, design, installation, buildability, and maintainability perspective
Proficient in relevant engineering software tools such as CDEGS
Awareness of procurement activities and lead times
Being committed to professional development, staying updated on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in rail design and engineering, integrating them into project designs as appropriate

Nice to have:
Degree in Electrical Engineering
Member of an engineering institute and has Engineering Council Professional Registration
Experience of undertaking DPE/CRE roles
Knowledge of UK railway standards and regulations
Knowledge of design stages and requirements e.g. RIBA, BSRIA, GRIP, PACE
Good understanding of relevant legislation such as CDM and CSM
Experience of working with 3D models in a BIM environment
Good knowledge of NEC contracts and project communications
Knowledge of testing, commissioning and certification of electrical services would be beneficial
