Confluent's Business Technology team is scaling, and we're looking for a Senior Director of Business Technology Engineering to lead the charge. Reporting directly to the CIO, this role owns the engineering organization responsible for the platforms that power our most critical business systems — from development through QA and release. You will lead a team of Salesforce and NetSuite developers, QA and release engineers, and internal tooling and AI builders, ensuring delivery that is fast, reliable, and built to scale. This is a high-visibility leadership role with direct influence across GTM, Finance, and Customer Support systems, and a mandate to raise the bar on engineering excellence across the Business Technology organization.
Job Responsibility:
Lead and develop a team of Salesforce/NetSuite developers, QA/release engineers, and internal tooling and AI developers — setting a high bar for delivery quality, engineering standards, and team growth
Own the end-to-end engineering lifecycle across Business Technology — from development and QA through release — ensuring systems are reliable, scalable, and aligned to business outcomes
Drive a culture of developer velocity and continuous improvement, championing CI/CD practices, automated testing, and AI-assisted development workflows across the organization
Serve as a senior engineering voice to the CIO and cross-functional business leaders, providing visibility into delivery performance, risks, and opportunities to innovate
Partner with recruiting and people leadership to attract, develop, and retain top engineering talent in a competitive market
Serve as the operational anchor for the Business Technology engineering hub — owning team health, delivery cadence, and site culture in partnership with global leadership
Requirements:
5+ years of experience leading engineering teams responsible for enterprise SaaS platforms, with a track record of delivering high-quality systems at scale
Proven ability to lead multi-functional engineering teams spanning development, QA, and release management across Tier 1 business applications
Strong delivery instincts — experienced in capacity planning, SDLC management, and driving engineering performance in a fast-moving, globally distributed organization
Demonstrated success partnering with senior business stakeholders across GTM, Finance, or Customer Support to translate requirements into reliable, scalable systems
Track record of building inclusive, high-trust engineering cultures where teams grow, deliver, and do their best work
Nice to have:
Hands-on background with enterprise platforms such as Salesforce, NetSuite, or consumption-based billing systems like Metronome
Experience building or scaling internal developer tooling, automation, or AI-powered capabilities within a business technology or enterprise engineering context
Familiarity with consumption or usage-based SaaS business models and the systems that support forecasting, billing, and revenue operations
Prior experience standing up or scaling a greenfield engineering site — with the organizational savvy to navigate ambiguity and build structure where little exists
