This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and forward thinking Diabetes Specialist Nurse to join our progressive diabetes service. We are looking for a nurse with a genuine passion for supporting people living with Type 1 diabetes, delivering high quality antenatal diabetes care, and championing the use of hybrid closed loop - HCL - insulin delivery systems. You'll be part of a dynamic multidisciplinary team committed to improving outcomes, driving innovation, and empowering patients through education, technology, and personalised care. This post also involves community working.
Job Responsibility:
Provide expert clinical support for individuals with Type 1 diabetes, including advanced insulin management and technology enabled care.
Deliver specialist antenatal diabetes care in partnership with obstetric and midwifery teams, supporting women with Type 1, Type 2 and gestational diabetes throughout pregnancy.
Lead on the implementation, optimisation, and ongoing support of hybrid closed loop systems, ensuring safe and effective use.
Offer structured education, training, and ongoing support for patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
Contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives, and the integration of emerging diabetes technologies.
Participate in audit, data collection, and evidence based practice to support continuous improvement.
Provide clinical leadership, mentorship, and support to colleagues and students.
Requirements:
Significant Post-Reg. experience within specialty
Previous experience at band 6 within specialty
Extensive clinical experience
In depth specialist knowledge
Involvement in audit
Evidence of continued professional development
Up to date knowledge of research relating to diabetes
Knowledge of current health service Issues
Knowledge of health and safety Issues
Demonstrable experience of teaching/assessing
Evidence of recent study or on-going development
Knowledge of quality audit and its application
