8x8 is looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to join our worldwide engineering team responsible for building and operating our global public cloud infrastructure platform. This is a highly technical role requiring a generalist mindset, strong DevOps foundation, solid networking and systems experience, and hands-on public cloud expertise. You will serve as a subject matter expert, providing operational support and cloud guidance to internal teams throughout the product lifecycle - ensuring the highest levels of availability, performance, security, and cost efficiency. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who works collaboratively on shared codebases, champions DevOps best practices, and thrives in a fast-paced, globally distributed environment.
Job Responsibility:
Evaluate product designs and architectures against operational excellence standards for availability, security, performance, and cost optimization
Partner with product development teams to proactively manage cloud capacity planning - anticipating growth and ensuring infrastructure meets performance and scalability requirements
Plan, implement, and continuously improve a multi-account, multi-region AWS cloud platform with focus on scalability, reliability, performance, and high availability
Design and maintain infrastructure automation using Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Atlantis) to accelerate deployments and reduce operational toil
Develop and manage access control frameworks, implementing IAM policies, roles, and permission boundaries following least-privilege principles
Implement and maintain observability for the cloud platform including monitoring, alerting, logging, and self-healing automation where applicable
Document platform designs, operational runbooks, and troubleshooting procedures
Provide 2nd and 3rd level support, liaise with network teams and third-party vendors for problem resolution, and participate in incident root cause analysis
Contribute to cloud cost optimization efforts through right-sizing, reserved capacity planning, and resource lifecycle management
Requirements:
B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent hands-on experience
5+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure engineering, preferably AWS and Oracle Cloud (Azure/GCP exposure is a plus)
Strong Linux systems administration (Ubuntu/RHEL-based), including networking, security hardening, and troubleshooting
Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code: Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible
Solid understanding of AWS networking and core services: VPC, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, EC2, S3, Route 53, CloudTrail, Lambda, IAM, and Organizations, in multi-account, globally distributed deployments
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Git-based workflows
Proficiency in scripting: Bash, Python, or similar
Experience with monitoring and observability platforms (CloudWatch, Prometheus/Grafana, or equivalent)
Strong debugging, systems analysis, and rapid issue resolution skills
Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across time zones in a geographically distributed team
Nice to have:
Experience with Kubernetes (EKS) and container orchestration
Familiarity with cloud networking at scale: Cloud WAN, TGW peering, multi-region architectures
Experience with cost management tools (AWS Cost Explorer, CUR, or third-party FinOps platforms)
