Khan Academy is looking for a senior data scientist to play a critical role in our growing team. This role will partner with our chief learning officer and product leadership team to drive engagement and improve student outcomes. We are looking for curious, passionate individuals who can apply their strong technical skills to mine for insights across our rich datasets, and work collaboratively across the organization to drive critical strategic decisions.
Job Responsibility:
Partner with product teams to understand and help develop theories of action which describe testable hypotheses for the impact of new features
Identify and measure success of initiatives through goal setting, forecasting, event instrumentation, monitoring, and ongoing analysis of core outcome metrics
Perform exploratory analyses on our rich datasets to extract insights about our teacher & learner behavior and guide our decisions around product roadmap and investments
Use your expertise with statistical techniques to quantify the impact of various features, programs, and interventions
Share results of analyses to non-technical audiences in ways that help them develop insights about our offerings
Contribute to the development of self-service analytics tools to enhance data access for the product team
work with our engineering teams to improve our tools and datasets
Requirements:

Proven cross-cultural competency skills demonstrating self-awareness, awareness of other, and the ability to adopt inclusive perspectives, attitudes, and behaviors to drive inclusion and belonging throughout the organization.
Background in applied math, statistics, economics, or a related technical field
5+ years of experience in data science or analytics
Proficient with statistical techniques (i.e., multiple regression, causal inference, AB testing, hypothesis testing) for real-world applications
Advanced SQL foundations & ability to manipulate data using R or Python
Compelling data storytelling and visualization (i.e. Looker) with the ability to communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders
Strong business intuition & judgment, with a knack for asking the right questions to drive impact
Nice to have:
Prior experience working in the education industry is a plus
