Our client seeks to hire a Senior Data Engineer to serve as the principal technical authority for our enterprise data platforms. In this Christchurch-based role, you will provide the strategic guidance that informs our long-term architecture and investment decisions, ensuring their data systems are scalable, secure, and future-proof. You will work at the intersection of technical execution and high-level strategy, translating complex concepts for senior leadership while leading proof-of-concept initiatives. This is a pivotal opportunity to drive innovation, oversee major migrations to Snowflake, and mentor a growing team of data professionals.

Job Responsibility:

  • Lead development of enterprise data initiatives and provide strategic architectural recommendations
  • Design and maintain scalable, secure data solutions across multiple cloud platforms
  • Drive system optimisation, automation, and innovation through proof-of-concept initiatives
  • Translate complex technical concepts into actionable advice for non-technical senior stakeholders
  • Provide mentorship to junior team members and champion data engineering best practices
  • Oversee data governance and compliance frameworks to ensure high-quality, reliable data

Requirements:

  • More than 6 years of experience delivering complex, Enterprise-level Data Solutions
  • Expertise in SQL, ETL processes, and building large-scale data pipelines
  • Strong experience with Snowflake and cloud-based data architecture principles
  • Proven ability to provide guidance and strategic advice to management
  • Background in schema design, dimensional modelling, and system migration projects
  • Relevant certifications in Snowflake, AWS, Azure, or GCP are highly desirable
