An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Cultural Heritage professional to support a major onshore oil and gas decommissioning program in Australia. This long-term, multidisciplinary project integrates cultural heritage management with environmental, regulatory, and operational delivery within a highly sensitive natural environment. The role will work closely with Traditional Owner groups, internal project teams, and key stakeholders to ensure culturally appropriate and compliant heritage outcomes are achieved throughout the project lifecycle.
Job Responsibility
Plan, scope, and coordinate cultural heritage survey delivery
Support scheduling, logistics, and tracking of field programs with Traditional Owner participation
Review heritage survey data, reports, and associated documentation
Manage and maintain spatial and heritage data systems (e.g., ArcGIS)
Build and maintain strong relationships with Traditional Owner groups and their representatives
Support co-design and implementation of Cultural Heritage Management Plans
Coordinate Traditional Owner involvement in surveys and heritage activities
Engage with internal teams and external stakeholders to support project delivery
Promote culturally respectful and transparent engagement practices
Undertake heritage assessments for land disturbance activities and provide advice during project planning and execution
Integrate heritage considerations into project and operational activities
Identify and manage heritage-related risks and constraints
Collaborate across heritage, environment, and project teams
Support compliance with relevant State and Commonwealth cultural heritage legislation and agreements
Assist in preparing heritage inputs to approvals and regulatory documentation
Contribute to implementation of Cultural Heritage Management Plans and procedures
Monitor and track heritage-related commitments
Contribute to the improvement of heritage processes and management systems
Develop tools, templates, guidance materials, and training resources
Maintain accurate records and reporting on heritage activities
Promote consistency and efficiency across ways of working
Requirements
Demonstrated experience in cultural heritage management within mining, energy, or infrastructure sectors
Experience operating at a senior advisor level
Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, including cross-cultural awareness
Experience coordinating cultural heritage surveys and working closely with Traditional Owner groups
Working knowledge of State and Commonwealth cultural heritage legislation and approvals processes
Proven ability to manage complex scopes, competing priorities, and deliver in dynamic environments
Experience with GIS (ArcGIS) and heritage data management systems
Tertiary qualifications in Archaeology, Anthropology, Environmental Studies, Planning, Land Management, or related discipline
