Senior clinical practice in a remote and complex operating environment. Ayers Rock Resort is seeking an experienced Senior Counsellor to join its on-site Social & Emotional Wellbeing team, supporting staff and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander trainees living and working at the resort. This role suits a confident, grounded practitioner who brings strong clinical judgement, cultural capability and the ability to work effectively in a real-world, remote context. The Senior Counsellor works closely with the General Manager Wellbeing, contributing to a clinically governed, culturally responsive wellbeing system that supports workforce safety, stability and retention, including the National Indigenous Training Academy (NITA) residential program. The Senior Counsellor is a senior practitioner role with a strong focus on therapeutic work, risk management and case coordination, delivered within a broader organisational wellbeing system. Operating in a 24/7 tourism environment, the role requires sound judgement, discretion and the ability to respond calmly and professionally to complex and high-risk situations.
Job Responsibility:
Delivering evidence-based, trauma-informed therapeutic assessment and counselling to staff and residents, using a person-centred SEWB framework
Providing timely and appropriate support in response to critical incidents
Undertaking ongoing risk assessment, safety planning and coordinated case management
Maintaining accurate clinical records, documentation and reporting in line with professional and organisational standards
Contributing to proactive wellbeing outreach, mental health promotion and staff education across the resort
Supporting culturally safe engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff and trainees, including those living on-site through NITA
Requirements:
Bachelor degree or higher in Counselling, Social Work, Psychology or a related discipline
Eligibility for professional membership and professional indemnity insurance (e.g. AASW, PACFA, ACA)
Demonstrated experience delivering individual and group counselling across trauma, grief and loss, mental health, substance use and relationship issues
Proven experience in risk assessment, safety planning and critical incident response
Strong reflective practice skills and commitment to ethical, culturally responsive practice
Demonstrated ability to engage respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, with a willingness to listen, learn and work within local context
Capacity to work independently while contributing positively to a small, multidisciplinary team
National Criminal History Check required
Northern Territory Working With Children Check (Ochre Card) required or ability to obtain
Full Australian Driver’s Licence required
