The Legal Team for Mastercard Payment Services is looking for a Senior Regulatory Counsel to support our Norwegian business. The role involves providing legal advice and guidance on Norwegian regulatory matters, with a particular focus on the payments and financial services landscape. The Senior Counsel will support the commercial law function, especially in relation to contractual aspects and related legal documentation, ensuring that business activities are aligned with applicable legal and regulatory requirements. The role requires a qualified candidate with a minimum of five years’ relevant legal experience, and the candidate must be fluent in Norwegian.
Job Responsibility
Providing legal advice and guidance on Norwegian regulatory matters, with a particular focus on the payments and financial services landscape
Supporting the commercial law function, especially in relation to contractual aspects and related legal documentation
Providing advice and guidance on regulatory and data privacy matters in respect of Mastercard’s services
Supporting customer and regulator engagement materials, updates, reports and presentations
Engagement with internal stakeholders in the business and the Risk, Commercial Law and Privacy teams
Negotiating data processing agreements with customers, suppliers and other relevant parties
Assisting the MPS business in relation to maintaining up-to-date processing records
Providing privacy advice to the business on an on-going basis
Assisting in drafting, reviewing, and interpreting contract clauses related to direct or indirect regulatory and data privacy requirements
Participating in negotiations related to the same
Providing legal analysis and advice on regulatory and data privacy requirements in connection with product development
Supporting the commercial legal function as required
Requirements
Experience as a lawyer in reputable Norwegian law firms and/or in-house counsel in Norway
Ability to establish overview of complex regulatory matters and identify impact on our services or internal organization
Experience with, or interest in, financial services regulation with emphasis on technology infrastructure, operational resilience and third-party risk management and outsourcing regulation, including the EU Digital Operational Resilience Act and local Norwegian national security regulation in respect of digital infrastructure. Experience from similar infrastructure related areas will also be relevant
Experience with and/or interest in data privacy law is an advantage but not a requirement
Ability to think and act both strategically and tactically with respect to the needs of business clients and their objectives while ensuring that the we remain compliant with existing regulatory obligations, react to regulatory threats and opportunities, and maintain good working relationships with key regulators
Language requirements: Fluent in Norwegian (written and spoken). Fluent in English
Law degree required
Ability and willingness to take project management responsibility for regulatory driven processes
Nice to have
Experience with and/or interest in data privacy law
