We are seeking a Senior Cost Accountant with strong plant manufacturing experience to support a global manufacturing organization in Temple, TX for a 12-month contract. This role is highly operational and partners closely with factory leadership, supply chain, product teams, and FP&A to ensure accurate product costing, inventory valuation, and manufacturing performance reporting.
Job Responsibility:
Conduct monthly financial close for inventory and manufacturing transactions across approximately 40 operating entities and 6 factory locations
Analyze standard vs. actual manufacturing variances related to labor, materials, overhead, and work orders
Maintain and update standard costs, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and production routings
Support annual and periodic cost roll processes for materials, labor, and overhead
Prepare actual vs. budget analysis and provide financial insights related to manufacturing costs and inventory performance
Publish monthly factory performance reports and inventory position reporting used for audit, tax, and insurance requirements
Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies and manufacturing cost issues
Partner with plant leadership, supply chain, engineering, and product teams to analyze cost drivers and improve operational visibility
Support new factory start-up activities, including cost modeling, asset utilization monitoring, and training related to product costing
Lead the quarterly excess and obsolete inventory review process
Collaborate with FP&A to support cost modeling, forecasting inputs, and operational decision support
Assist with ROI analysis for capital investments and validation of cost improvement initiatives
Maintain and improve processes and internal controls related to manufacturing costs and inventory valuation
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
5+ years of accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
Experience working in plant-based manufacturing environments
Hands-on experience with standard costing, manufacturing variance analysis, and inventory accounting
Experience working directly with plant operations and production teams
Strong analytical and Excel skills
Ability to manage and analyze large volumes of manufacturing and inventory data
Nice to have:
Experience with SAP (manufacturing modules)
Experience with Oracle (GL accounting)
Background supporting inventory audits and cycle counts
Experience working with BOMs, routings, and cost rolls
