The Senior Cost Accountant plays a critical role in supporting manufacturing operations through accurate cost analysis, financial reporting, and cross-functional collaboration. This position is structured as: 75% Cost Accounting Focus and 25% General Accounting and Close Activities. The ideal candidate brings hands-on manufacturing cost accounting experience, a strong analytical mindset, and the ability to translate complex financial data into actionable insights for operations and leadership teams.
Job Responsibility
Prepare and analyze monthly manufacturing cost and margin reports, including revenue, cost of sales, productivity, and profitability metrics
Perform variance analysis, including actual versus FIFO cost, identify root causes, and communicate findings to leadership
Maintain and update Bills of Materials, including labor, overhead, and burden rates
Develop and analyze overhead absorption rates and cost allocation methodologies
Reconcile work-in-process and inventory accounts between perpetual systems and the general ledger
Lead and support cycle count programs, including variance investigation and resolution
Compile cost and manufacturing expense data to support budgeting and forecasting
Support cost modeling, pricing analysis, and cost reduction initiatives
Build a deep understanding of manufacturing processes to ensure accurate cost application
Prepare monthly financial reports focused on revenue, cost of sales, margin analysis, and factory productivity
Record and post month-end journal entries related to inventory, accruals, and manufacturing costs
Perform general ledger reconciliations and related financial analysis
Support month-end and year-end close processes with a focus on accuracy and timeliness
Assist with financial statement preparation in accordance with U.S. GAAP
Support external audits by preparing schedules and responding to auditor inquiries
Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
3 to 7 years of progressive accounting experience
3 to 5 years of cost accounting experience within a manufacturing environment required
Strong understanding of inventory flow, Bills of Materials, and manufacturing cost structures
Experience working with ERP systems required, Business Central and PrintVis preferred
Standard costing and variance analysis
Inventory valuation and work-in-process reconciliation
Cost allocation and overhead analysis
Manufacturing-focused budgeting and forecasting
Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and financial modeling
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
Ability to interpret complex data and present insights clearly
Effective communication skills with both financial and non-financial stakeholders
High attention to detail and accuracy
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage deadlines
