Job Description

The Senior Consultant Commodity Trading at BCG Platinion leads digital transformation and IT implementation projects for global commodity trading clients. The role focuses on designing and deploying trading solutions, managing complex programs, and developing trading capabilities.

Job Responsibility

  • Take end-to-end responsibility for functional streams within large-scale transformation and implementation projects in commodity/energy trading — from requirements analysis and target architecture design to successful implementation
  • Lead and steer interdisciplinary project teams (business analysts, developers, QA specialists) while actively mentoring and developing team members
  • Translate strategic business concepts into robust solution architectures and actionable implementation roadmaps (use case design, capability mapping, requirements engineering, process design, data domains, and flow analyses)
  • Own the architecture and implementation of commercial off-the-shelf solutions, including CTRM/ETRM systems, portfolio management, forecasting, scheduling and logistics solutions, as well as digital data platforms for value measurement and optimization
  • Manage complex transformation programs including governance structures, stakeholder management, and risk control at senior management level
  • Ensure adherence to industry best practices in energy trading delivery and contribute to the continuous development of methodological standards
  • Support business development activities, proposal processes, and the further expansion of our commodity trading portfolio

Requirements

  • Successfully completed degree in (business) informatics, business administration, or a related field
  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience in the context of energy providers, software implementations, or transformation projects in energy trading or energy IT
  • Proven experience leading project teams or functional streams within complex programs
  • Deep practical experience in the design, implementation, and configuration of industry-standard energy trading software (e.g., CTRM/ETRM systems, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, or comparable platforms)
  • Strong understanding of IT landscapes in energy trading environments (core systems, interfaces, data architectures)
  • Excellent analytical and conceptual skills, including experience in developing robust business cases
  • Confident presence when interacting with senior IT and business stakeholders
  • Fluent in German and English, both written and spoken
