Job Description

Admiral Business is seeking a Senior Commercial Motor Underwriter to help shape the technical and commercial development of our motor portfolio. This is a specialist role for an experienced underwriter with strong knowledge of the commercial motor market and a passion for building innovative, customer-focused solutions. Reporting to the Motor Underwriting Manager, you'll be one of our technical experts and a trusted partner for brokers, customers, and colleagues across the business. You'll play a key role in risk selection, pricing, and portfolio performance, helping to shape underwriting appetite, refine product design, and drive sustainable growth.

Job Responsibility

  • Underwrite and target commercial motor risks across a range of products, including mini-fleet, fleet, taxi, salary sacrifice, commercial van, and future product lines
  • Help shape underwriting appetite, guidelines, pricing frameworks, and portfolio strategy, ensuring alignment with Admiral Business objectives and market opportunities
  • Partner with Product, Claims, Pricing, Distribution, Operations, and Data teams to evolve our propositions and respond to changing customer and broker needs
  • Build strong relationships with brokers and partners, acting as a trusted technical expert and helping to grow business within our underwriting appetite
  • Monitor portfolio performance, market trends, and loss ratios, using insight and data to inform underwriting decisions and identify opportunities for growth and optimisation
  • Collaborate with Pricing and Data teams to refine risk selection, enhance portfolio performance, and support profitable growth
  • Support the development of underwriting capability through coaching, training, and knowledge sharing across the team
  • Ensure underwriting activity aligns with governance, compliance, and risk appetite requirements
  • Represent Admiral Business externally, helping to strengthen our reputation, broker relationships, and market presence
  • Champion innovation, automation, AI, and digital tools to improve underwriting effectiveness, efficiency, and customer and partner experiences.

Requirements

  • Significant commercial motor underwriting experience, with strong knowledge of fleet and SME fleet markets
  • Deep technical expertise in commercial motor underwriting, including rating methodologies, risk assessment, and regulatory considerations
  • Strong commercial judgement, with the ability to balance technical underwriting discipline with growth and profitability objectives
  • The confidence and credibility to build relationships, influence stakeholders, and act as a trusted adviser to brokers and partners
  • A collaborative approach, comfortable working across teams to deliver shared business outcomes
  • A data-led mindset, using insight and analytics to support decision-making and portfolio performance
  • Curiosity and enthusiasm for new technologies, automation, and ways of working that improve underwriting and customer outcomes.
