A leading civil engineering contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Commercial Manager to join its growing Engineering Services division. Job Responsibility
Lead and develop the commercial function within the Engineering Services division
Establish and enhance commercial governance, procedures, and best practice
Support strategic business growth objectives through effective commercial leadership
Manage the negotiation, setup, and administration of engineering and professional services agreements
Ensure contractual compliance and robust commercial controls across all projects
Identify and mitigate commercial risks throughout the project lifecycle
Drive commercial opportunities and prevent scope creep through effective contract administration
Oversee Work in Progress (WIP), Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs), profit and margin reporting
Monitor commercial performance and support accurate forecasting and financial reporting
Lead the commercial engagement of external consultants, designers, and subcontractors
Ensure commercial arrangements align with primary contractual obligations
Manage project variations, compensation events, and change management processes
Ensure all scope changes are identified, valued, negotiated, and agreed
Drive the development of commercial systems, procedures, and reporting frameworks
Support operational excellence and continuous business improvement initiatives
Requirements
Significant commercial management experience within construction, infrastructure, engineering consultancy, or civil engineering sectors
Experience working across both consultancy (fee-based) and contracting (delivery-based) environments
Strong financial and commercial acumen with expertise in CVRs, forecasting, profit and loss reporting, and commercial governance
Excellent contract management experience including NEC3 and NEC4 contracts
Strong negotiation, stakeholder management, and client-facing skills
Proven ability to manage commercial risk and maximise project profitability
Experience developing procurement and contract strategies
Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence and engage multidisciplinary teams
Excellent written communication skills including contractual correspondence, reporting, and meeting documentation
Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management, or related discipline
