We are seeking a Commercial Development Manager/Senior Commercial Development Manager (Life Sciences) to join our team. In the Commercial Development Team, we work closely with the academic inventors to translate their groundbreaking research into commercially viable propositions that have a clear potential to create a real-world impact. We manage a diverse portfolio of projects, facilitate IP protection, and work collaboratively with our colleagues in the Innovation Discovery and Investment & Licensing Teams to build commercially sounds business cases. Job Responsibility:
Work in close collaboration with the Innovation Discovery Team and the Investment & Licensing team
Develop a package of information that can be used to produce commercially compelling business plans, valuations and partner due-diligence activities
Follow internal stage gate process where critical project decisions are made and approvals are granted
Responsible for communicating with the inventors the analysis and decisions made in the Innovation Factory about invention
Building strong, collaborative relationships with academic inventors, colleagues and both internal, and external stakeholders
Managing a portfolio of commercial projects, prioritising tasks, tracking progress, and reporting outcomes
Critical assessment of technology, unmet need, value proposition, competitive landscape and market opportunity
Leading market research, IP and commercial due diligence to ensure market fit and appropriate IP protection
Development of commercial project plans, including identification of funding sources, industry / commercial partners, advisors and consultants
Requirements:
Higher degree in life science (or equivalent) related subject
Proven scientific and commercial experience gained within a life science sector
Curious and up to date with innovative technology developments and market trends in the life science sector
Analytical and detail orientated thinker, able to identify commercial potential and judge impact
Used to manage multiple projects, deliver objectives and meet targets within agreed timelines
Great interpersonal and stakeholder management skills – able to build strong and long-lasting collaborative relationships
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Nice to have:
A business or project management qualification is not essential but would be advantageous
For the senior role: previous experience working in an innovation or commercial environment
the ability to mentor and lead colleagues in the team
and to effectively manage complex and higher value opportunities
