Job Description

As a Senior CMF Designer at the GM Design Studio, you will contribute to shaping the design vision of GM vehicles. You will be a vital part of a team that creates and executes world-class products, pushing the boundaries of material innovation and translating our brand philosophy and delivers emotional experiences to customers. In this role, you will explore global design trends, propose innovative CMF directions, and collaborate with a global design team to develop world-class automotive design solutions. You will be involved in every aspect of the CMF design process, from trend research and concept story creation to material development and final production. Your role collaborates closely with global design studios and cross-functional teams.

Job Responsibility

  • Participate in CMF design for upcoming GM vehicles, defining the creative direction for vehicle interiors, exteriors and advanced products
  • Drive material innovation through advanced research, analyze latest design & material trends and forecast what is ahead and develop cohesive CMF strategies for upcoming product development
  • Create robust CMF concept creation
  • Presenting CMF concepts and trend research, and visually communicating using industry-standard software to effectively communicate CMF concepts
  • Manage the entire CMF process of production, ensuring design intent is upheld through color and material development and final implementation
  • Strong communication skills with effective interpersonal skills to work with a wide variety of people & establish and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and vendors, identifying new resources and managing a comprehensive internal library of innovative materials and finishes
  • Collaborate with global design, engineering, marketing and other functions to ensure CMF solutions meet design, cost and timing targets
  • Mentor and support other CMF designers within GMI CMF (Korea & China), contributing both regions with a high standard of creativity, quality and process

Requirements

  • Portfolio is a critical component of the application
  • 4~6 years of professional CMF design experience with a strong portfolio
  • Proven experience in automotive CMF design, including familiarity with its development and manufacturing processes
  • Proficiency in design and visualization software, including Vred, Blender, Photoshop, Illustrator, Unreal Engine, Premiere, and After Effects
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to clearly articulate a design vision and foster cross-functional collaboration across global teams and time zones
  • Strong sense of aesthetics, color, material and detail, combined with solid understanding of manufacturing constraints
  • Able to manage multiple projects and personal workflows independently with minimal supervision
  • Capable of operating and thriving in a fast paced and dynamic work environment
  • Knowledge of additional design fields is welcome for this position, as it will deal with various aspects of visual communication for all design assignments
  • Able to travel overseas, and very high potential work in GM China & Korea regions
  • Good communication skills in English
