Job Description:

Uber is a technology company that is changing the way the world thinks about transportation. Whether it's heading home from work, getting a meal delivered from a favorite restaurant, or a way to earn extra income, Uber is becoming part of the fabric of daily life. We're making cities safer, smarter, and more connected. As a Senior Claims SIU Investigator you will focus on protecting our platform and users by proactively identifying, investigating, and mitigating the highest severity and most complex insurance fraud schemes. You are self-driven and #standforsafety because you deeply believe that fraud hurts our earners, customers, and the broader insurance/technology industry as a whole. The ideal candidate for this highly autonomous yet collaborative role will possess strong claims knowledge and data analysis skills, with a focus on investigating high-value, organized fraud rings and sophisticated soft fraud schemes. This position offers a direct opportunity to utilize unique internal data to resolve complex cases and partner with external insurance partners for optimal outcomes, both on individual cases and at a strategic level. The role also involves mentoring less experienced investigators and requires superior communication and stakeholder management abilities.

Job Responsibility:

  • Lead Major Case Investigations: With support, investigate large-scale, complex organized fraud, with a specific emphasis on staged accident rings and attorney-directed schemes involving excessive and unnecessary medical treatments. Gather and synthesize evidence from external sources, including public sources
  • Leverage Internal Data: Utilize and query internal proprietary systems to sift through vast amounts of information, identify patterns, uncover linked entities, and build comprehensive investigative narratives
  • Carrier Collaboration: Provide guidance to our insurance carrier partners to ensure timely and effective action on investigative findings, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal outcomes on claims involving fraud
  • Communication: provide timely, accurate and comprehensive briefings on fraud schemes to team leaders, partner with stakeholders across Claims, Legal and data science to uncover information and share knowledge from major case investigations
  • Mentor and Guide: Act as a subject matter expert and mentor to less experienced SIU investigators, helping them learn internal systems and developing their investigative skills into sophisticated fraud schemes.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in SIU investigations and/or claims experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Direct experience navigating and querying large data sets, with working knowledge of Uber's internal systems or similar proprietary databases within a major tech or transportation company
  • Prior experience mentoring, coaching, or training junior team members, demonstrated ability to communicate shared goals and consider impact of their actions and work on the team. Able to identify stakeholders, gain buy-in and build productive relationships
  • Proven ability to understand wider business implications of problems and quantify impact to make trade-offs appropriately. Proven ability to generate solutions, monitor and validate impact
  • able to refine solutions and correct course as needed
  • Experience investigating and analyzing relationships between attorneys and medical providers, and knowledge of the current systemic structural issues underlying lien based treatment for claimants.
What we offer:
  • Eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program
  • May be offered an equity award & other types of comp
  • All full-time employees are eligible to participate in a 401(k) plan
  • Eligible for various benefits.
