The Civil Engineer will work as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team within a Client’s Approving Authority, primarily supporting operations and future programs at the client sites. The role involves working alongside Mechanical, Building Services, and Electrical Engineers to author, develop, assess, and maintain Engineering Design Substantiation. The goal is to ensure that Design Intent, Critical Safety Functions, and Safety and Operational Requirements are met in accordance with current best practices and regulatory standards.
Job Responsibility:
Develop, assess, and manage Design Substantiation documents
Lead the development and control of design changes and concessions
Present design substantiations to safety committees
Produce and maintain EIMT schedules, procedures, and records to support the safety case
Prepare and review Periodic Review of Safety reports
Provide expert engineering advice to internal and external stakeholders
Conduct Independent Technical and Peer Reviews (ITA/IPR)
Apply both general and specialist knowledge to integrate emerging technologies
Use practical and theoretical methods across all project phases in high-risk/nuclear environments
Deliver robust technical justifications for civil/structural design changes in safety-critical contexts
Requirements:
5+ years of experience in design assessment for reinforced concrete and steelwork structures, including dynamic loads (earthquakes, blasts, wind, rain, snow)
Proven ability to produce technical justifications for civil/structural design modifications in high-hazard industries
Skilled in applying theoretical and practical methods to design, develop, and manage engineering processes in nuclear/high-risk environments
Strong foundation in general and specialist engineering knowledge, utilizing both existing and emerging technologies
Needs SC to start and to be a British National
Nice to have:
Experience a similar nuclear environment is a plus
Familiarity with safety case development techniques, such as HAZID/HAZOP studies
Civil/Structural Engineering degree
Incorporated engineer (or equivalent experience)
Chartered engineer (or equivalent experience)
