Lead biodiversity and fauna management in the rugged and beautiful Pilbara at MinRes, driving compliance through best practice to deliver outstanding environmental stewardship. As Senior Biodiversity Advisor, you will provide specialist guidance and leadership in biodiversity, ecology, and fauna management across Mineral Resources' Pilbara operations. This key role involves ensuring compliance with regulatory commitments while coordinating on-ground biodiversity and environmental management programmes. As a technical authority, you will support team capability development and champion best practice standards and innovation in environmental stewardship and biodiversity protection across all our operations.
Job Responsibility:
Oversee the implementation of site biodiversity management plans, fauna and other ecological monitoring activities, and rehabilitation assessments
Manage and conduct fauna handling activities in accordance with approvals, licences, and regulatory requirements, including relocation and translocation where required
Undertake or support monitoring programs for Northern Quoll, Pilbara Olive Python, Ghost Bat, Pilbara Leaf-Nose Bat, Bilby and other species of conservation significance
Ensure accurate and timely reporting to regulators and internal stakeholders, including assisting with the preparation of environmental compliance reports and management of biodiversity data
Develop and implement site-specific biodiversity management plans and fauna interaction protocols
Develop and deliver training programs for site staff on fauna interaction, biodiversity awareness, and environmental compliance
Mentor and support environmental advisors to build technical capacity across biodiversity and environmental management disciplines
Engage with Traditional Owners, local communities, and environmental organisations to foster collaborative biodiversity outcomes
Support and assist with environmental research programs being undertaken on MinRes sites
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Zoology or equivalent (postgraduate degree strongly desirable)
Extensive experience (6+ years) in biodiversity, ecology, or environmental management (preferably in the environmental consulting or mining/resources sectors)
Extensive experience in handling and releasing/relocating native fauna, including Threatened fauna
Strong working knowledge of WA environmental legislation and wildlife licensing requirements (ideally having previously held and reported under WA wildlife licenses)
Strong analytical skills and understanding of data management, analysis, and presentation
Strong experience in scheduling, coordinating and executing field work programs, including safety leadership and subcontractor management
Team leadership and previous mentoring experience
A passion for science and an interest in innovation
