We're on the hunt for a Senior Backend Engineer for an urgent, 6-month contract to help build a genuinely safe, privacy-first digital ecosystem for kids and families. This is a fully remote position within the UK, and we're looking for someone ready to hit the ground running ASAP. If you love untangling messy system problems, building rock-solid data flows, and working with a high degree of autonomy, you're going to love this team.

Job Responsibility

  • Architect and scale backend systems that enforce critical safety, privacy, and parental control guardrails globally
  • team up with mobile, web, and product engineers to design modular, reliable, and easily auditable interfaces
  • champion engineering best practices and ensure operational excellence using meaningful metrics like SLIs and SLOs

Requirements

  • Core Java expert (8+) with proven production experience in GCP
  • sharp system design, data structures, and algorithm fundamentals
  • comfortable diving into SQL for ad-hoc investigations
  • pragmatic, collaborative, and genuinely excited about shipping high-quality code that protects users

Nice to have

  • Background in data engineering (Scala, Beam, or Scio)
  • experience with Protocol Buffers
  • performance tuning under heavy load
