The ZEOS B2B Platform is the high-performance engine that allows our partners to seamlessly integrate into the Zalando ecosystem. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will be a key architect of the services that power our partner-facing products and internal operational tools. Our mission is to transform complex business requirements into a scalable, API-first platform that empowers partners to grow with speed and flexibility. In this role, you will lead the development of mission-critical microservices, ensuring they are resilient, secure, and cost-efficient. You will work within an agile, cross-functional team of engineers and product managers where technical excellence is balanced with business impact. Job Responsibility

  • Engineer scalable backend systems: design, develop, and evolve high-performance Microservices using Java and Spring Boot
  • Design intuitive RESTful APIs
  • Own the full lifecycle of your code from design to deployment and 24/7 operational health
  • Master cloud infrastructure using AWS and Kubernetes
  • Drive engineering standards through rigorous testing, code reviews, and modern tools
  • Collaborate across the stack with frontend teams
  • Mentor and guide team members

Requirements

  • Seasoned Java Developer with deep expertise in Spring Boot and a strong grasp of the modern JVM ecosystem (including build tools like Gradle)
  • Extensive experience in Microservice architectures, distributed systems, and designing clean, versioned REST APIs
  • Proficient in deploying and operating applications within AWS and comfortable navigating Kubernetes environments
  • Highly skilled in building CI/CD pipelines and believe that automated testing and observability are fundamental to 'Senior' level engineering
  • Thrives in agile environments, taking ownership of complex topics and moving them from discovery to production with an analytical and solution-oriented mindset
  • Excellent English skills and ability to translate technical complexity into actionable plans for both engineers and stakeholders
  • Interest in how the frontend consumes your services and happy to jump across the stack to help the team deliver a cohesive product
