We are seeking an experienced Senior Backend Engineer to join our platform team with a double focus of building product features and helping maintain our infrastructure. Our Platform team’s mission is to keep our customers and operations teams happy by building the Insurance Platform parts of which are Policy Management, Claims and Operations systems. As a Backend Engineer with a DevOps twist, you’ll focus on building features for our insurance platform, but also help take care of our infrastructure by owning Terraform, Kafka, Datadog and Qovery. This role involves a balance between coding on our insurance platform and DevOps work (a roughly 60/40 split).
Job Responsibility:
Collaborate with the team and stakeholders to define and implement the vision for a scalable system architecture for our insurance platform that supports our growing portfolio and customer base
Own and help take care of our infrastructure which is set up to be serviceable by engineers but needs an owner who is passionate about good developer experience
Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code that promotes best practices and enables others
Explore and propose new technologies to streamline processes and improve system efficiency
Champion engineering best practices and help elevate our tech stack to the next level, setting standards for the organization
Create reusable solutions that help teams scale faster and avoid one-off workarounds
Requirements:
5+ years of backend development experience, working on complex systems and platform solutions
Experience with Terraform, Kubernetes and AWS
Strong passion for building, maintaining, and improving platform tooling, libraries, solutions, and processes that empower multiple engineering teams and enhance the overall developer experience
Solid experience with Ruby on Rails and a deep understanding of how to develop high-quality, reliable software
Strong communicator, able to work across teams and translate technical vision into actionable plans
You can break down complex problems into manageable parts and communicate solutions clearly to your team and other stakeholders
Commitment to delivering solutions that are well-tested, reliable, and maintainable
Nice to have:
Proven experience in fintech environments or startups is a plus
